Joshua D. Kennedy
A native of east side Detroit, Joshua aims to ignite the spirit of love and service throughout the city. As an educator, Joshua has dedicated his professional career to serving low income and first-generation students. Joshua believes youth should be developed in social activism and community involvement, to transform Detroit into the engine of the Midwest it once was. Joshua's vision of innovative and direct service opportunities for Detroiters, developed into Volunteer Detroit. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts in Africana Studies, and a Master of Arts in Social Sciences.
Joshua has been recognized for his commitment to Detroit through service as a 2-time recipient of the Detroit City Council, Spirit of Detroit Award, 2017 Detroit Young Professionals, Community Builder Award, and the 2017 University of Michigan Black Alumni Association, Making A Difference Award.
Additionally, Joshua's activism has been spotlighted in RollingOut Magazine, B.L.A.C Magazine, the HuffingtonPost, the Michigan Chronicle and others. Joshua currently resides in Washington D.C. where he works in college access and community engagement.
